Two BSF personnel injured in assault by suspected cattle smugglers in Meghalaya

“Two Border Safety Drive (BSF) personnel have been injured in an assault by suspected cattle smugglers alongside the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district,” officers mentioned on Wednesday (July 16, 2025). “The incident passed off close to the Khasimara river within the early hours of July 12,” they mentioned.

“The BSF personnel noticed actions of 30 to 40 cattle heads together with round 20 folks on the Bangladeshi facet of the border,” in line with an FIR lodged with the Meghalaya Police.

“On being challenged, the miscreants, assisted by one other group of 40 to 50 people from throughout the border in Bangladesh, tried to cross into Indian territory and started pelting stones on the BSF personnel,” it mentioned. “Within the assault, two BSF jawans sustained accidents,” it mentioned.

“In self-defence, BSF troops fired a number of warning photographs and clean rounds to disperse the attackers,” the border-guarding drive mentioned in a press release. “Following the incident, the miscreants fled the realm, and BSF personnel recovered 13 cattle heads,” it mentioned. “Additional investigation is underneath manner,” it added.
