Greenland sharks’ eyes don’t appear to deteriorate with age

Greenland sharks, the longest-lived vertebrates in the world, present no indicators of bodily deterioration of their retinas even after residing for lots of of years. The discovering is very shocking as some scientists suspected the animals had been functionally blind since they dwell in such deep, darkish waters.
Lily Fogg on the College of Basel, Switzerland, and her colleagues performed bodily research of the eyes of eight lifeless Greenland sharks (Somniosus microcephalus) and sequenced their DNA.
